👀 A New BTC-Backed Product Comes to Market

Bitcoin is the foundation of how we all got to where we are in the blockchain world. As such, it’s also grown to be the biggest cryptocurrency and many have wanted exposure to it. We’ve seen BTC ETFs, custody solutions for BTC itself, and even security tokens giving you exposure to bitcoin through the mining of it such as Blockstream’s Mining Note ($BMN1 at maturity, $BMN2 Issuing) and Hashrate Asset Group’s $HAG token.

We’re now seeing another asset backed by bitcoin… a loan! Sygnum has issued a $50M loan to Ledn, a a financial services company specializing in crypto-backed loans. This loan comes from a syndicate of Sygnum Bank’s institutional clients.

Before I confuse you… Ledn issues loans backed by crypto and in this case yes, they are the borrower and Sygnum is the issuer.

Moving right along, Sygnum’s $50M will be used by Ledn to further their operations/ loans. How are they making money? We have to assume the interest they’re charging their clients has to be bigger than that of which they’re paying to Sygnum.

This is a cool use case for on-chain finance, giving different types of liquidity options along with increasing utility for crypto! On the issuer/ lender side, blockchain helps streamline operations and mitigate counter-party risk which may even pass savings to the end user.
